Kandace Creel Falcón (aka KCF)
I am currently teaching at Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) in the Women’s Studies Program and the American Multicultural Studies Department. I earned my Ph.D. in Feminist Studies from the University of Minnesota through the Department of Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies in Fall 2010.
From a pedagogical standpoint, I love enriching my courses through the inclusion of popular culture and linking current events with examples from “daily life” to the theoretical foundations on feminisms that I teach. One of the ways that I see this as effective and powerful is through the use of blogging on a personal level and through designing various blogging assignments for my students in the feminist classroom.
My dissertation work and my creative writing revolve around the power of storytelling for women of color, particularly Chicanas. In similar ways, I model this value of storytelling and sharing stories through my personal cooking blog, La Kitchen Chicana as well as how I ask my students to engage with blogging in my classes. Two of my more successful course blogs were for courses I taught at the University of Minnesota for the Department of Chicana/o Studies and GWSS respectively – Chicana/o-Latina/o Gender and Sexuality Studies (Fall 2008) and Senior Seminar: Writing (Spring 2010).
For a more detailed account of my journey with using, creating, blogs please read this entry entitled “Why I love to blog.”
Here is a list of the course blogs that I have used in my classes. My journey with course blogging is constantly evolving!
